26 Sturgeon were taken on the final day of the Upriver Lakes Sturgeon Spearing Season, which brings the total for the year up to 261 Sturgeon. There were 26 Juvenile Females, 85 Mature Females, and 150 Males speared, which are all comfortable numbers for harvest based on the DNR's population estimates. Lake Winnebago spearers continue to bring fish to the scales as well, just not nearly at the pace of those who speared Upriver this year. 7 Sturgeon were registered today lake-wide, one of which weighed over 100 pounds! The season will most likely run the full 16 days, so expect similar harvest numbers to continue over the coming days.
2/11/13
21 Sturgeon were harvested on the Upriver Lakes today, despite yesterday's rain. Only 9 Sturgeon were taken on Lake Winnebago, with the biggest weighing 92.2 pounds and speared by a woman which is great to see!
2/10/13
74 Sturgeon were brought to the scales on Sunday from the Upriver Lakes, while 21 came in from Lake Winnebago. The biggest fish of the day was registered at Quinney and tipped the scales at 118 pounds and was speared by Melvin Lisowe.
2/9/13
Opening day of the 2013 Sturgeon Spearing Season got off to a great start on the Upriver Lakes, as anglers reported fair to good water clarity. Spearers upriver speared a total of 140 fish on the opener, while Spearers on Lake Winnebago weren't nearly as successful! Poor water clarity hampered spearing efforts, as only 39 Sturgeon were registered out of more than 2000 Spearers!
Be sure to check here daily during the 2013 Sturgeon Spearing Season as Harvest Numbers will be posted as they are available.
